The Paramillo del Quindio Trek is perfect for a short, action-packed visit to Los Nevados National Park. Over 3 days, you’ll trek through the Cocora Valley, explore cloud forests and wetlands, and journey along the Quindío river canyon. The summit of Paramillo del Quindío can be a slippery, sometimes muddy adventure, but worth every minute for the jaw-dropping views.

Located between the Tolima, Santa Isabel, and Ruiz volcanos, Paramillo del Quindio is one of the best attractions of Los Nevados and one of the tallest peaks in the park at 4750m. This mountain is considered one of the most beautiful of the park, due to its unique geomorphology and splendid, colorful sands. Once know by another name, Nevado del Quindio for its snowy peak, warm weather has melted the snow and left an exposed summit.

This newly exposed peak is a demanding climb with a great variety of views. The trail ascends climbs to the high-mountain tropical environment that makes Nevados unique, and on the way back you’ll follow along the Quindío river, exploring yet another new section of the park. gives you the perfect taste of Los Nevados.

With an average trekking time of 6 hrs per day your adventure will start in Salento. Trekking all the way up the Cocora Valley to the cloud forest and the wetlands and finally arriving at the breathtaking Paramillo del Quindio. On the way down, you will take the route along the canyon of the Quindío River, featuring an endless array of fauna and flora. Finally, you’ll end in Salento with plenty of time to enjoy this traditional Colombian pueblo in the coffee region.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 -

Cocora Valley - Cloud Forest.
7am: We will get some energy from a nice breakfast in Salento and then catch our private traditional vehicle to the Valley of Cocora (Willis Jeep). After an informative talk, we will start our adventure at the bottom of the Cardenas River. We will climb to the highest point of the valley to enjoy a lunch on the way, with the spectacular view of the whole canyon. We will reach the farm La Argentina and this will be our rest spot, also we will share the family traditions and way of life of the mountain people while enjoying a cup of coffee and some laughs.

Day 2 -

Wetlands - Paramillo of Quindío
7am. After having a delicious farmer breakfast, we will start the hike going up to the abandoned house Buenos Aires. From there we will walk along the middle line of the valley. We will reach the beautiful and surprising wet lands of Quindío (option 1) or depending on the group sensations and weather conditions we can go higher until 4700m (option 2) and reach the highest point for today ́s hike. We keep our hike going down to the farm La Primavera at 3600m where we will rest and sleep that night.

Day 3 -

Descending the Páramo
7am: Descending to Cocora Valley, taking a different route as the ascent, along the canyon of the Quindío River, plenty and with and infinite richness of fauna and flora. In the middle of the way we stop a moment in the farm Estrella de Agua (Water Star) at 3200m and then keep going down. We will enter to the Natural Reserve Acaime, the Casa de los Colibries (House of hummingbirds). This day after arriving again to Cocora Valley, the private car will take us to Salento.
