The Paramillo del Quindio Trek is perfect for a short, action-packed visit to Los Nevados National Park.
Over three days, you’ll trek through the Cocora Valley, explore cloud forests and wetlands, and journey along the Quindio river canyon.
The summit of Paramillo del Quindio can be slippery and muddy. However, the stains are worth it for the jaw-dropping views.
Located between the Tolima, Santa Isabel, and the Ruiz volcanos, Paramillo del Quindio is one of the most popular attractions at Los Nevados. It's also one of the tallest peaks in the park at 4750m.
The mountain is considered one of the most beautiful in the park. It has unique geomorphology and is awash with vibrant, colorful sand.
Paramillo del Quindio was formerly known as Nevado del Quindio. This was due to its snowy peak. Although, over time warm weather melted the snow and left an exposed summit.
Climbers will find the newly exposed peak a demanding climb. However, they will be rewarded with a variety of spectacular views.
Paramillo del Quindio's trail reveals a mountainous, tropical environment. This terrain is unique to Los Nevados. On the way back, you'll follow the Quindio river and explore another breathtaking section of the park.
The average trekking time is six hours a day. The adventure begins in Salento and takes you across Cocora Valley's cloud forest and wetlands before you arrive at the breathtaking Paramillo del Quindio.
On the descent, you'll take the route along the canyon of the Quindio River. The river features an endless array of fauna and flora. Finally, you’ll return to Salento. This gives you plenty of time to gaze up at the iconic wax palm trees and sip on local coffee at this traditional Colombian pueblo.
