An unparalleled climb through the rare 'páramo' of Los Nevados

Discover the high mountain landscape of one of the fastest evolving regions in the world

The Santa Isabel Expedition is an incredible trek through Los Nevados National Park. Located in Colombia's Cordillera Central, this park is home to diverse ecosystems and beautiful mountains.

On this adventure, you'll trek through the stunning high-altitude páramos. Scientists consider the páramos to be among the fastest evolving regions on the planet. You'll also climb the snow-capped volcano of Nevado Santa Isabel.

First, you'll begin in Villamaría, Caldas. You'll travel by 4x4 on a winding mountain road with spectacular vistas. Then, you'll camp at El Bosque, situated at 3500 meters. We'll set up camp to acclimatize and then enjoy dinner together.

The next day, you'll trek upward. You'll observe how the landscape and ecosystems change as you climb higher.

At the end of the day's trek, you'll make camp on the edge of the Otún Lagoon. Situated at 3900 meters, the lagoon fills the remains of an extinct volcanic crater. Additionally, the lagoon is a beautiful spot for taking pictures and walking to see nearby sulfur outcrops.

On the third day, you'll climb through the moorland that circles the volcano of Santa Isabel. You'll also pass several picturesque lagoons. Then, you'll reach the mountain's glacier.

Next, you'll attempt the summit of Santa Isabel, which stands at 4950 meters. On top of the mountain, you'll have spectacular views of Nevado del Ruiz to the north and Nevado del Tolima to the south.

After enjoying your successful ascent, you'll return to camp for lunch, dinner, and a well-deserved rest.

Finally, you'll trek back through the national park to El Bosque. Once you arrive back at El Bosque, you'll take a vehicle to Villamaría, Caldas. Here, our trip ends.

In summary, if you're looking for outdoor adventure, rare biodiversity, and a touch of Colombian hospitality, this is the trip for you.
